Sagittarius is the zodiac’s ninth sign and is generally depicted as the Archer. Yet the Centaur is often also used as Sagittarius’ symbol. From time to time we may see Sagittarius portrayed as both the Archer and the Centaur giving us a picture of Sagittarius as the half man, half horse who carries a bow and arrow. In almost all cases Sagittarius points his arrow skywards in the direction of the stars.
The Centaur with which Sagittarius is most closely associated (there are many in the tales of old) is that of Chiron the Greek who appears in Greek mythology as a hybrid beast in two forms. Whilst man and beast together, Chiron is also part God and part man and this tension is part of his nature. Chiron was more highly regarded in the mythology than any of the other Centaurs and it is told that the Greek Kings would send their sons to him to imbibe of his wisdom and intellect in order that they may better rule their kingdoms.
Sagittarius belongs to the three Fire signs. (The other two Fire signs are Aries and Leo). Sagittarius is also positive in polarity just like the signs of Aries, Gemini, Leo, Libra and Aquarius. This tends to make Sagittarius an outgoing and extrovert character relying on their own resources and taking them out into the world.
